ARTIST STATEMENT
Amanda Ramsay’s concrete and resin sculptures activate geometric mass and void to engage dialogs between symmetry and asymmetry or repetition and randomness among other characteristics of perception. The understated palette of these materials allows the simple play of light falling across unadorned geometric forms to be experienced in contrast to shadowed recesses. Constructing abstract simplicity without ignoring structure, the work strives to evoke a sense of place and order, as if derived from an imprint of shapes and patterns that are implanted in the depths of our memory.
