John Emerson is an American artist. Adopted at a young age by a long line of reluctant self-taught carpenters and blacksmiths, John’s work reflects on his experience growing up around the New England attitude of a working class family. He has spent the past fifteen years living as an artist, trying to be a general independent contractor, all around the country. In pursuit of the most appropriate way to represent himself, Emerson’s undaunted choice of material and presentation is ever changing in its display as video, performance, and sculpture define his artistic curiosity. After receiving a BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design in 2008, he continued to explore these avenues of creativity while moving around the country and eventually achieving a MFA in ceramics at Alfred University in 2014. John is now the Sculpture studio coordinator at Anderson Ranch Art Center in Snowmass, CO.
